If you don’t have a website already…. you have probably asked this question “How do websites make money?”. I have been asked this question many times. You may have done some searching on the web about this very topic. First of all, not all websites make money. There are a lot of sites out there that are simply occupying space with little to no traffic or visitors. No traffic on your page equates to zero chance of making money from the website.

Websites Make Money by Selling

This is a recurring theme of mine. Your website has to sell something to generate revenue. It could be advertising. You may offer writing services or product reviews. It could be a product like CDs or event tickets. It could be a service like web hosting or website marketing, maybe even website design or programming. You have to sell something to generate money. Websites don’t earn an income from simply existing. They have to engage the site visitor and convert them to take a step and buy something or click on a link and go to another website to buy something. No money is made until this action happens.

Ways other than Advertising

Of course, the obvious way to make money with a blog is advertising. Getting someone to pay to run an ad for a product or service is a great way to earn income with a website. Here is the dilemma… People are not going to pay you to advertise their business unless you can prove you have traffic that will justify the advertising. You have to prove yourself.
